Partnering with Impact Ministries to Impact a local church

On June 10, 2009, our life group partnered with Impact Ministries to serve dinner to the Vacation Bible School (VBS) students at Mt Sinai Church in Downtown Evansville.  This is a very small church and the first time they offered VBS.  It was decided to serve Mexican food (Taco’s, Cheesy Mexican Rice, Chips & Salsa, and Oreo’s for dessert.)  We split the food preparation among our six group members, but only three could actually be there to serve the meal.  We wish everyone could have experienced the fun we had, but I don’t think we all could have fit in the church kitchen.  It was very small.  We had 3 lbs of hamburger fixed and that should have been enough for less than 25 kids.  However, I (Dawn) made the error of not serving the meat on the tacos.  Taco’s usually do not require a lot of meat, but some of them were loading it on.  Oops.  We did run out of meat, so Kristen made an emergency run to Wesselman’s to get something.  We then had burritos for the remaining five kids who didn’t get taco’s.  The interesting thing is, we had to unplug the refrigerator to plug in the very low powered microwave.  We managed to blow the fuse four times.  All in all, the kids were happy, the staff were happy, and we were thrilled to serve.  You don’t have to go to far to enter the mission field and it doesn’t take to much time either.  Only one evening of our time and we made an impact on more than 20 lives just blocks away from our church.  Praise GOD.
